What Is Fluxis, The Atlantic’s New Word Game?

Fluxis is a daily word puzzle from The Atlantic Games where you build a loop of connected words. Each word must start with the last letter of the one before it and match a specific category. The challenge? You must loop all the way back to your starting word, forming a closed circuit.

Fluxis puzzles rotate through a range of clever word categories, each day featuring a fresh combination of rules. These categories are:

  • Adjectives – Words describing qualities or characteristics
  • Nouns – Person, place, or thing words
  • Double Letters – Contains a pair of identical letters (like letter or coffee)
  • Exactly [x] Letters – Has a specific word length
  • Exactly [x] Vowels – Contains a set number of vowels
  • No Repeated Letters – Each letter appears only once
  • Alphabetical Order – Letters appear in A–Z order
  • Alternating Vowel-Consonant – Letters alternate between vowels and consonants

Recently, Fluxis introduced several new categories for even more variety:

  • First Half of Alphabet – All letters are from A–M
  • Last Half of Alphabet – All letters are from N–Z
  • Odd Number of Letters – Word length is an odd number
  • Even Number of Letters – Word length is an even number
  • More Vowels Than Consonants – Self-explanatory!
  • More Consonants Than Vowels – The opposite balance
  • Exactly X of Y Letter – Contains a specific number of a chosen letter (e.g., two A’s)
  • Number of Consonants – Word must include a set number of consonants
  • All Consonants Different – No consonant repeats within the word

Availability

A new Fluxis puzzle is released every day at midnight Eastern Time (EDT) and is the same for everyone, regardless of your device time or time zone (unlike Wordle or other NYT Games, which sync to your local clock). It’s free to play daily, and access to the puzzle archive is available exclusively to Atlantic subscribers.

How the Fluxis Solver Works

Use our solver to test ideas, find connections, or complete your loop. Here's how:

  1. Enter words as you go
For each of the three word slots, you can start typing letters or full words. The number of matching options will appear beside the box. Open the dropdown to view and select a word from the list.
  2. Use filters automatically
The solver filters word suggestions based on the letters you input, today's category (like “No Repeated Letters” or “7-letter words”), and position in the chain (must start with the correct letter).
  3. Try out different paths
Add or change any word at any time. The solver updates as you explore different options.
