Rankings and Points Explained

Your performance in the Spelling Bee is reflected in your ranking, calculated based on the points you accumulate. Here’s how it works:

Your total points from the day's puzzle determine your rank. Points are accumulated by forming valid words according to the scoring rules. Point thresholds for each rank may vary daily based on the total possible points in the puzzle. Pangram Bonus: Finding the pangram significantly boosts your score due to the 7 extra points.

Lady Puzzle's Pro Tips for Mastering the Spelling Bee

#1 Study Previous Puzzles

Regularly review answers from previous puzzles. This practice helps you recognize common words and patterns, especially those with fewer letters like COCOON. Memorize these words to boost your future performance.

#2 Learn Common Prefixes and Suffixes

Familiarize yourself with common prefixes and suffixes accepted in the Spelling Bee, such as -ING, -ED, and IN-. This knowledge can help you form longer words and increase your points substantially.

#3 Commit Uncommon Words to Memory

Some puzzles feature obscure words like BAOBAB or CALLALOO. Keep a list of these unique words and commit them to memory. They often reappear, and knowing them can give you an edge.

#4 Use Systematic Guessing

When stuck on shorter words, systematically guess combinations starting with known letters. Begin with the first two letters and try different endings. Leverage the two-letter list provided in the Forum.

#5 Take Breaks for Fresh Perspectives

If you hit a mental block, take a break. Stepping away from the puzzle and returning later can provide a fresh perspective. Sometimes, solutions come to you unexpectedly during routine activities like walking or running.

#6 Leverage In-Game Help Resources

The Spelling Bee Buddy is a valuable tool that offers personalized hints. Use it strategically: first, solve as much as you can on your own, then use the Buddy to identify missed words. Make use of the Hints page.
