Zorzzle: A Puzzle for Phrase Lovers
Zorzzle is a brand-new puzzle that takes the best of phrase wordplay and combines it with the thrill of puzzle games like Wordle and a dash of Wheel of Fortune. This exciting new challenge is perfect for fans of Zorse, the game tester by the NYT in Canada that recently ended. If you loved Zorse’s clever mix of phrases, you’ll find Zorzzle to be your next favorite brain teaser. It's the perfect blend of fun and challenge, where each puzzle pushes your phrase-solving skills to new heights!
How to Play Zorzzle
Your goal is to uncover two popular phrases (or idioms) linked by a word — the final word of the first phrase is the starting word of the second phrase. The challenge begins with a cryptic clue pointing to the two phrases, with some letters already revealed. Ready to crack the puzzle? Here's how:
- (Optional) Reveal letters: You can ask for either random letters or a specific letter. To reveal a certain letter, first select its position in the puzzle. You have 5 Reveals in total!
- Submit a phrase: You have 3 guesses to try and solve the puzzle.
How Submit Works
- You can submit a phrase even if you don’t know all the letters. Use "X" or any placeholder to fill in the blanks. This will allow you to confirm the correct letters.
- Once you submit a phrase and identify a letter, it will be filled in across all the positions it appears in the puzzle. For example, if you're trying to guess the blended phrase HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD HONCHO and you submit " XXX THE NAIL ON THE HEAD HONCHO," you’ll see the correct phrase revealed as " HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD HONCHO" because the letters H, I, and T will be filled in all their positions.
Discover the Phrases and Their Meanings
Once you've cracked the puzzle (or used up all your guesses and reveals), the game will display the two original phrases and their definitions. This is a great opportunity to learn something new or revisit classic idioms that you might have missed during the challenge.
Achievements
In Zorzzle, you have a total of 5 reveals to help you along the way—either random letters or specific ones by selecting their position. Additionally, you can submit up to 3 guesses for the phrases. The more help you use, the lower your achievement level. Here's how your performance stacks up based on the help you need:
- Zorzzle Virtuoso – Perfect

You solved the puzzle with minimal help, showing sharp thinking and strategy. - Zorzzle Explorer – Good
