About Connections Sports Edition

The New York Times' Connections Sports Edition has been challenging sports fans since its beta debut on September 18, 2024. After 138 puzzles in the testing phase, the game officially launched on February 9, 2025—just in time for the Super Bowl! This special twist on the popular logic and trivia game focuses on sports-related terms and categories, making it a fun and competitive challenge. It also marks the first collaboration between The New York Times and The Athletic, which the Times recently acquired. You can find it exclusively on The Athletic, as it’s not yet part of the NYT Games app or website.

How to Play

In Connections Sports Edition, your goal is to find groups of four items that share a common theme. To play, simply select four items and tap 'Submit' to check if your guess is correct. Be careful not to make more than three mistakes while uncovering the groups!

Each puzzle has a unique solution, so watch out for words that might fit into multiple categories. As you solve the puzzle, each group will be color-coded based on its difficulty level.
