What Is Fluxis, The Atlantic’s New Word Game?

Fluxis is a daily word puzzle from The Atlantic Games where you build a loop of connected words. Each word must start with the last letter of the one before it and match a specific category. The challenge? You must loop all the way back to your starting word, forming a closed circuit.

Fluxis puzzles rotate through a range of clever word categories, each day featuring a fresh combination of rules. These categories are:

  • Adjectives
  • Nouns
  • Double Letters
  • Exactly [x] Letters
  • Exactly [x] Vowels
  • No repeated letters
  • Letters in alphabetical order
  • Alternating vowel-consonant

Availability

A new Fluxis puzzle is released every day at midnight Eastern Time (EDT) and is the same for everyone, regardless of your device time or time zone (unlike Wordle or other NYT Games, which sync to your local clock). It’s free to play daily, and access to the puzzle archive is available exclusively to Atlantic subscribers.

How the Fluxis Solver Works

Use our solver to test ideas, find connections, or complete your loop. Here's how:

  1. Enter words as you go
For each of the three word slots, you can start typing letters or full words. The number of matching options will appear beside the box. Open the dropdown to view and select a word from the list.
  2. Use filters automatically
The solver filters word suggestions based on the letters you input, today's category (like “No Repeated Letters” or “7-letter words”), and position in the chain (must start with the correct letter).
  3. Try out different paths
Add or change any word at any time. The solver updates as you explore different options.

Lady Puzzle’s Pro Tips for Getting Better at Fluxis

Here are some tried-and-true strategies to help you solve faster and maybe even show off a little flair along the way.

#1 Start with the rules

Always scan all three rules before you begin. If you see something tricky like “words must be in alphabetical order,” you’ll want to plan ahead. For example, choose earlier words that end with letters near the start of the alphabet, leaving you space to maneuver later. Always make the hardest rule your starting point and build from there!

#2 Study your words

Look closely at the starting word and anything you’ve already played. Notice common endings, starting letters, prefixes, or suffixes. This is where your Scrabble strategies come in handy; you’ll often spot usable hooks or overlaps.

#3 Use your short-word toolkit

Two-letter and three-letter power words (the kind Scrabble and Words With Friends players live on) are lifesavers. They’re flexible, easy to slot in, and can bail you out when the board feels tight.

#4 Build your own master list

Keep a set of go-to words handy for the most common Fluxis rules:

Mix in some short, vowel-heavy words and you’ll always have a fallback option.

#5 Think long (and vowel-rich)

When the rule calls for longer words (7–8 letters) or vowel-rich ones (4–5 vowels), channel your Scrabble brain. Roots, affixes, and anagramming skills shine here—and don’t be afraid to lean on our solver when you’re stuck.

Final Fun Challenge: Reverse Solve

The Atlantic Games Just Launched

On June 17, 2025, The Atlantic debuted The Atlantic Games, a dedicated hub for digital puzzles. It features two brand-new daily word games, Fluxis and Stacks, alongside favorites like Bracket City, the mini-crossword, and Caleb’s Inferno. While Bracket City (and its archive) is completely free, the full archives for Fluxis, Stacks, and the mini crossword are exclusive to Atlantic subscribers (though non-subscribers can still play the latest three puzzles).

This move sets The Atlantic apart as a thoughtful, story-driven alternative to big puzzle sites, offering games with a unique style and creative flair.
