Appropriate anagram of VENMO, if you change the "V' to a "Y" Answer Explained
The answer is MONEY.
This clue is a fun bit of letterplay. At first glance, "VENMO" makes you think of the popular payment app, so your mind naturally stays in the world of sending and receiving cash. The clue then nudges you to notice something else: if you replace the V in VENMO with a Y, the remaining letters can be rearranged into MONEY. It's not a perfect anagram, but it's close enough to feel satisfying once you spot it. I liked how the clue combines modern vocabulary with classic crossword wordplay, rewarding solvers who take a second look at the letters rather than focusing only on the app itself.

Today’s NYT Mini Highlights
Today's Monday Mini was a little tougher for me than a typical Monday, though that may have had more to do with how sleepy I was than the puzzle itself. I spent far longer than I'd like to admit on "___ assembly required" before landing on SOME. My favorite bit of the grid was the pairing of VENMO and MONEY. It's a neat coincidence that MONEY is almost an anagram of VENMO, just swap the V for a Y. Once I noticed that, it made me appreciate the grid even more. EXES as "Potentially awkward wedding guests" also got a laugh out of me. It's one of those clues that's funny because it's so easy to imagine. Not the easiest Monday in my book, but still a fun and clean solve.
