  • The clue "Repeated words that lead up to ..." refers to the common celebratory phrase "Hip hip hooray!" The repeated words "hip hip" precede "hooray" in this cheer, making HIPHIP the fitting answer. The wordplay hints at this well-known exclamation.

  • The clue "What puzzle solvers don't look down on?" uses a pun. Solvers "don't look down on" ACROSS clues because they're read horizontally, not vertically (down). Additionally, solvers rely equally on both Across and Down clues, further emphasizing the wordplay here.

Image of a compass, for Safari Answer Explained

The answer is ICON.

This one asks for a digital metaphor. Safari is Apple’s web browser, and on an iPhone or Mac, its ICON is a little image of a compass. So the “Image of a compass” isn’t literal, this is about interface design. We’re not looking for “LOGO” or “APP” here, because the clue specifies it’s an image for Safari, not just something generic. ICON is the right word in computing to describe those small images you tap or click on. It’s a good reminder that crossword clues often include tech references, even when they sound physical or visual.
